I am trying to diagnose an antifreeze leak. My radiator is low on antifreeze after I drive it a fair distance.
I have found an antifreeze puddle on the outside ground under the passenger side feet area. No leaking on the inside of the vehicle. That was this past winter when I had the heat cranking. And only one time. I figured it was the heater core.

What is trowing me off is it hasn’t had that puddle since winter, but the radiator is low (about a quart) each fair distance drive.

What are some things I should look for or how do I go about finding the issue?

      Thank you,
      Tesla77

Inspect the pressure cap. Make sure the gasket hasn’t become brittle or broken. If it is old, they are cheap enough to just replace. This is often the issue when there is no overheat, no visible sign of leak, and no indication of a mechanical failure.

Found that the intake gasket is an issue. See link below.

Given the location of where the puddle is on the ground, I’d also look at the coolant hoses going to and from the heater core, and any associated clamps.

Got the leak fixed. It was the heated frost plug. The heater was rusted from being old and it was leaking going down the road. That’s why I didn’t have a puddle most all of the time. We did a compression check on the cooling system and the motor. No problems were found except the frost plug being bad.
It’s a nice feeling to know your vehicle is running good. 🙂
