Got 2 error codes, one for an overheat and a misfire. Misfire was fixed (engine light turned off atlas) when i replaced a spark plug that was cracked. After reading that the car had head gasket issues, i applied a bottle of Bue Devil head gasket sealer ( the Pour n go kind). It boiled over. So then i decided to replace the thermostat, and while the old one looked ok, i changed them anyway. Still overheating. I also noticed the upper radiator hose and a small hose coming from the coolant take warp up, but the lower hose stays cool, and the car takes a long time to cool down. Also, after trying to see how long it would take to overheat, I attempted to restart the car, but there was NOTHING in the coolant tank, despite it showing no evidence of leakage. I have no idea whats going on with the vehicle, and I can’t afford a mechanic. I don’t wanna scrap it so any help is appreciated!!

Those gaskets in a bottle are bad news, man. I know not everyone is made of money, though. You could be consuming coolant via a leaking head gasket. If the lower radiator hose is still cool, then I think it’s a water pump. The radiator is doing it’s job and it takes a long time to cool down, sounds like the radiator is doing its job. I have seen these types of problems before. You should try to burp your cooling system as a first attempt though.

IT looked like most of it got left in the coolant tank. How do I burp it (likely it as I flushed the system to remove traces of sealant, and COMPLETELY drained the thing.) Is there another way to see if the water pump isn’t working?? Also, i forgot to mention, while this thing had steam and coolant coming from under the cap the temp gage stayed in the middle.

          EDIT:
Forgot to mention, it doesn’t blow hot air.

That really sounds like air to me. But another really cheap fix is the radiator cap. Get a good OEM replacement one. People have looked for ages for a fix for their cooling system just to have it be the radiator cap. If you rad cap is weak it will be letting pressure out of the system too soon and cause overheating because the coolant will boil. But try bleeding the system first since it’s free.

How to bleed a cooling system

And welcome to the forum, by the way!

though there is a oddity. There is no radiator cap, just the cap on the coolant tank.

If you are sure, then it’s still the same process. It just has the cap on the reservoir instead of the radiator. The reservoir cap is what keeps the pressure in the system.

Everything i read says the system is self purging..?

It may be. If you’re sure, try a new cap.

If it’s white smoke coming out of the tailpipe it’s burning coolant and is a sure sign of a blown head gasket.

It looks white but sometimes it seems a blue color. Also right now to test the cooling system theres no coolant in the car, just water.

It passed a Block Test. I ran the test 3 times and each time it passed. I also saw that water was coming out the coolant take again, but once i could easily take the lid off and the coolant wasn’t boiling. I think u just need a new cap.

I Managed to find and repair the issue, thanks for your help!

It was the coolant tank cap, had a crack all the way through the inner seal. I got a new one, no problems.
