I’ve had my Integra for 12 years and within those years it failed to start 3 or 4 times. Every time it had the same issues: 1) would take quite a few cranks to startup 2) when it started the engine “sputtered” 3) when I pushed the gas pedal it felt like it lost power. And every time it would fix itself after running for a few minutes. Any idea why this is happening? Is this an issue with Integra’s? Is it a distributor, fuel or electrical problem? Thanks in advanced for responses.

I would check fuel system when that happens again.

          Welcome to the forums!

          Do you have a CEL?

When was the last time the vehicle was serviced and tuned up?

Did you do a visual inspection of the engine bay?

          How is the timing?

Did you try tapping on the IACV with a screw driver to see if that is causing your issues?

+1 on checking for fuel pressure with KOEO and KOER but that might not be an issue if the vehicle runs fine once started.

Same thing would happen to my 91 from time to time, I believed it to be the check valve in the fuel pump allowing fuel pressure to bleed off occasionally causing a long crank on start up from time to time, I would remedy the situation by turning the key to ON without cranking the engine 3 times before attempting to crank it and then I would crank the engine at it would start up fine. You COULD replace the fuel pump if you find this to be the case but if you do I would strongly recommend an OE unit as the aftermarket units for Honda’s just aren’t as good in my experience. I would first verify my theory by installing a fuel pressure gauge on they system and observing the pressure after you shut the engine off, it should hold pressure for at the very least 30 min, if it drops off quickly then you may have a problem with the check valve.
