ETCG, I know you had a Sonoma in your shop recently for an engine replacement, if you took video of that or could give me a brief rundown of what you had to remove that would really help!

I’m trying to remove the engine from a 97 S10. 2.2L, 5spd, 2wd extended cab. Somehow it still seems to be attached to the tranny. I’ve heard reports of people saying the body needs to be raised to get at some of the upper bolts, but I *think* I’ve got them all. There aren’t any bolts at the very top of the bell housing that I wouldn’t be able to see from below, are there? I got two really hard-to-get bolts, one on the left and one on the right, and I thought those were the last two :S

Do I also need to completely remove the engine mounts? I removed the bolts that go through them, but not the mounts themselves since they’re a bit difficult to get out.

      Any help appreciated. Thanks guys!
Good job ! I HIGHLY recommend bolting the trans to the motor while it is out and stuffing the whole unit back in when the time comes. trust me , it will be much easier that way.
Thanks for the advice, but thing about that… it’s not actually going back in. I’m building an electric car, and the 9″ motor I’m hooking up to the tranny is so small it’ll be no problem to install the bolts from the front. I don’t even have to worry about lining everything up :cheer:

                Okay. :cheer:

I’m actually doing a series of videos about the whole conversion process. You can find them over at youtube.com/ElecTrukTV. At the moment there are only two videos up, but more on the way, so stay tuned!

In the actual process, right now I’m building battery boxes. Obviously the engine is out, the electric motor is installed, and 2/4 battery boxes are complete. They’re taking a lot longer to build than I thought they would  but I want to do it right, with insulation and everything.

EDIT: I may move this to its own thread at some point.

Glad you got it sorted out, thanks for keeping us updated. I haven’t done that engine yet as the owners haven’t brought me a new engine yet. When the do I’ll be shooting video for sure.
