Recently bought a ‘97 Honda Civic for a daily. It would suddenly turn off at times while driving. Searched up online for a possible fix and decided to replace the distributor. While installing the new one I noticed that there was crack where the distributor mounts on.
      See attachments for reference.

So my question is: Can I replace that cracked piece or do I need a new engine?

      Thanks,
      Jose.

Being that it is segmented you should be able to get a replacement from a salvage yard

It is also the cam bearing cap under the valve cover.
So in order to replace it you’ll also need to remove the valve cover to get the piece unmounted .
Also check the cam bearing for any signs of damage.

          Thank you much!

Will remember to take a look at the cam bearing for damage.
You probably already know this by now given that this thread is a week old, but you will need an entire new head. Good news is that it’s pretty easy to replace.
Why is an entire head needed to replace a cam bearing cap?
Because there is no cap there. It’s all part of the head.
Sorry, but the pics show a separate piece.

Totes. You can buy cam & bearing assemblies on eBay, from JDM importers, etc.

I do believe he stands corrected…
