I’ve watched Eric’s video on the honda accord wheel bearing replacement. I saw that he had that special bolt/tool to knock out the hub from the bearing assembly. I recall that he said that “they’re special tools that do this”. I was wondering if that special tool would be this, http://www.harborfreight.com/fwd-front-wheel-bearing-adapters-66829.html. It’s a front wheel drive wheel bearing press kit.

It looks like those there are for standard, non captive brake rotors but I could be wrong. Your 97 has captive brake rotors on it right? The wheel bearing and hub come as a unit on those and the best way that I have found to get them out is exactly how eric does it. Remove the 4 bolts from the backside of the knuckle and pound out the rotor/hub

The wheel bearing assembly and the hub are sold separate. I wish it were that easy. Eric used that bolt to bang out the hub from the wheel bearing assembly. I’m thinking that this kit will press out the hub just like Eric did. I wanted to make sure before I made this purchase.

Im not sure if that one will help you. You may be better off removing the hub/bearing and having a shop press the new one to your hub, it should be inexpensive.

I’m thinking if I can get a socket and knock out the hub from the bearing and then use that tool to press the hub back into the new bearing assembly.

Actually when replacing the bearing I use a slide hammer to remove the hub from the bearing before I take the bearing out of the knuckle. You can do this after you remove the axle nut. I couldn’t do that on the vehicle in the video because the lower ball joint was broken. I’m hoping to put that technique in a video at some point the next time I get a vehicle in needing a wheel bearing.

Awesome information. I did the Honda ROH conversion about 3 years ago with a bearing / hub setup that I got from TAS auto. At the time, I was pulling the suspension apart to get the transmission out for a clutch job, and doing lower ball joints at the same time, so I went ahead and took the entire knuckle off the car, then replaced the bearing bolts with longer grade 8’s and pounded the hell out of them with the BFH to get the bearing / hub assembly off the car. I had no need to bother getting the bearing off the hub, since the conversion replaces the stock Accord hub with an Acura TL hub.

However, 3 years later, and 45k miles, and those TAS bearings are howling up a storm, so now I have to do that job again, and this time I have no need to tear things apart, so I was looking for an easy way to get it done. My first thought was one of those on the car presses they sell at Harbor Freight, but in order to use that, the CV shaft will need to be completely out of the way, which means separating the lower ball joints.

I had been wondering if I could sneak a slide hammer up in there just by pushing the CV shaft back as far as it will go, and just beat on it until it comes out. I hadn’t even thought about leaving the bearing bolted in at first, and pulling the hub that way. I suppose if I get the Harbor freight kit, pull the hub first, then the bearing, I could then use the kit to press the new bearing on, and I won’t have to mess around going to a shop at all.
