The vehicle is a 1997 Honda Accord Lx 5 Speed Manuel with Cruise control it is the 4 cylinder, 2.2L engine completely STOCK. Okay let’s start off with yesterday. I was sitting in a parking lot waiting on the rest of my work crew to show up apparently I left the headlights on while waiting. I was probably waiting for 10 minutes tops with the headlights on. I get in my car everything is fine drive it down to autozone to pick up some oil for my car. I get back into the car and the lights on I go back into the autozone, have them test the alternator and battery. They both check out battery charged at 100% and alternator is fine. It’s only been a day since the light came on and I have been driving it normally. A few things to mention- There is little bit of oil around the spark plugs. Car has a slight vibration not to bad. I need some ideas guys! Ask me anything tell me anything I could try and I will respond back with results and answers. Thanks in advance !

Has the alternator been replaced with an aftermarket one?

I’d suspect the battery, as the most likely. And I’d check that, after making sure everything is clean and tight.
You can buy a cheap hydrometer. Preferably one that’s temperature compensating. If the battery isn’t the sealed type. That’s probably the cheapest first step. If it is sealed, a load test is a good way to test. Unfortunately the battery will likely have to be removed to load test at the auto parts.
See if the alternator is putting out full power. Test it at the battery terminals while running. Also you can turn on any electrical equipment in the car, lights, fans, everything. Then check the voltage.
I find that checking the voltage, first thing in the morning gives the best picture of battery health. I’ve got a similar problem going on right now. No battery light though. I was alerted to a failing battery by a pending trouble code 61-1 in the ABS system.
My charging system looks good when I’ve just driven it. Because the alternator keeps the battery topped up. But overnight the battery slips down to 12.5v. Now that’s not cause for buying a new battery right away. But I’ll keep some cables with me just in case.Okay something happened! I just went out to my car and started it too see if the light was still on! it was so I decided to do a few things to see if it would help. I turned on everything electrical in the car and let it run for a while. I then realized I forgot to turn on my brights to use full power. I turned the brights on and the battery light started flickering! then the light goes out! I turn off the brights then the light comes back on! I left the brights on for 2 minutes (timed it) turned them off and the light stayed off?! it has been off now for 5 minutes can anyone please shed some light on what just happened? I got a new alternator I have sitting on my floor 161$ I would love to save the money and take it back but if you recommended I change it, I’ll pull it apart and slap it on.
