Hey guys, I am going to help my wifes friend out who has a broken timing belt on her 1997 ford escort 2.0L. I already checked and it is not an “interference engine” My question is since the belt is broken and the timing is off, do I just simply align the crank to TDC on #1 piston and then just make sure to match the mark on the single cam to the mark on the cover then slip the belt on? Thanks for any advice.

yes but check the shop manual to see how it gos back to gather. need to check to see if the vales hit the pistens if it didn’t get a new belt for it.

Using a suitable socket, rotate the crankshaft pully clockwise two complete turns. (The transmission should be in neutral for this.) Continue rotating until the “E” mark on the left camshaft pulley lines up with the “E” mark engraved on the cam dust cover and the “I” mark on the right camshaft pulley lines up with the “I” mark on the head. (you may not have an I and I but you get the idea)

I think you just line them up and put it back on, if they both dont line up you probably need more help 🙂
