Where do I begin with this vehicles problems?….

      – Starting issue: for a while wasn’t wanting to start without spraying starting fluid or brake clean through a vacuum hose…I don’t like the brake clean idea but it worked.

      – Battery: With car running power is a little over 14 volts and before a charge was a weak battery. (replacing it eventually)

      – Might be a vacuum leak somewhere, when the engine is running you can hear a hissing noise which could be from a dry rotted and chewed up tube that connects to the power steering fill???

      – Missing Passenger Fender/Front End Brace,Passenger Seat Adjust Trim,Rear Bumper

-Suspension needs love: Sway Links for sure, All kinds of noises happening when going over bumps (wobble sounds) Turning the wheel to the right and moving makes a sound that clanks as if a brake shroud is intermittently rubbing against something.

-Alignment is awful and the wheel will pull to a side depending on where the wheel is held and what road condition is like (play in the wheel as well)

-Exhaust was ripped off and is half *** attached to the car/flex piped together…(I have a guy fixing that and getting me a rear bumper)

      – Bouncy Ride (Rear shocks removed and replaced) still might need springs too, front needs that done as well but not as bad.

-Faded Paint on trunk, Dents scratches and small amounts of rust and faded paint here and there around the car

-Weather stripping is making it difficult to close some doors as easily (rubber between the roof/door frame coming undone) easy repair with some adhesive glue

      – Passenger door wiring harness chewed up(my repair wasn’t 100% but it made the seat go to the upright position instead of being stuck down, and my passenger window & mirror works.

-No Mats in the vehicle, some interior trim missing or broken, interior is needing a good detail.

-some radio type control velcroed to the dash and doesn’t work, CD changer in trunk may be missing the CD trays.

-Spare tire was gashed and bubble to the point I was afraid to touch it(removed and bought a full size rim/tire for now) but am putting the smaller spare back once the tire is replaced….

-Gas gauge (digital) Odometer (digital) both are inaccurate…

*1st Edit* – HVAC – Stinks, AC needs recharge and i get a alert the ac compressor isnt running…

I think that covers most of it for right now…I will try to get some pictures/videos attached or put on my YT channel then linked here. This is my first car which I’m not sure to be pissed because of all the problems or grateful for having a car and a cadillac…paid $550. Your Comments, Tips/Recommendations are welcomed try to be easy on me here lol.

I would begin by doing a compression check and a leakdown test. Get an idea of what the basic mechanical condition of the engine is.

There’s not much sense in tackling all these various issues if it turns out you have a sack of poo under the hood. It’s like worrying about lipstick and mascara when lung cancer is the issue.

I like the car but two things really annoy me 1. The problem where the coolant interacts with the head bolts so the head doesn’t sit properly 2. the aesthetics…Interior is worn and outside is worn…Dash is warped which I could get a dash cover to hide it but there’s no point if the engine doesn’t function properly…Thanks for your input.

“The problem where the coolant interacts with the head bolts so the head doesn’t sit properly.”

Not quite sure what that means, but I believe you have the Northstar engine. Just talking off the top of my head here, but I’m sure the Northstar has “torque to yield” head bolts. It means the head bolts must be replaced with new bolts every time the head is removed. If anyone ever did head work and didn’t replace the bolts, you’ve got some issues to deal with.

You also said the car is missing its rear bumper. Is there a trailer hitch on the car, or any evidence that a hitch was mounted at some time? A history of trailer towing could mean that there are hidden transmission issues, as well as wiring issues in the back end.

Sorry for such a late response but 1. I don’t believe the head was removed yet and 2. Now hitch but the bumper could’ve been ripped off from reckless driving: Twisted exhaust pipes left in trunk and dented K member

Might want to do some research on the Northstar engine. These have long head bolts that go down to the crankshaft bosses in the block. I’ve read of instances where the threads pull out of the block but I don’t remember if it happens when pulling the heads for gasket replacement or if the pulled threads is the cause of the leak.
