Hi,
I’m trying to change the head gaskets on my ’96 Oldsmobile 88, and I’ve gotten all the bolts on the front out except for one, which is behind another protruding bolt just above it, such that I can’t get a socket over the head bolt to loosen it (the others finally came out with a big torque wrench).
I’m sorta scratching my head here about this last one. I’ve tried various crescent and box end wrenches but neither of them give me the room or the leverage to get the thing loose. And I can’t fit any length socket between the target and that protruding bolt. No way to remove the protruding bolt that I can see. It seems attached to the metal. It’s one of the two bolts the front exhaust manifold slides onto.
How have you dealt with this sort of thing, and do you have any tips on how to circumvent this issue without buying some expensive specialty wrench?
I suspect it’s the same for one bolt on the other side of the engine as well, so this issue is likely double. Hopefully whatever solution will work for both.
Thanks a lot!
