      Hi all,

I seem to be having a problem with my brake light they are not responding to the brake petal and lighting up. I have checked all the fuses and bulbs they do light up when i turn on the headlight but do not get brighter when i press the petal. I know where the switch is on the petal as there are 2 one releases the shifter so i assume the other is for the lights.

I was hoping there may be a further diagnosis i can try before giving up and going to a tech. Thanks for all the help you can offer

      Tom

As you know, under the brake pedal there should be a button/switch that activates the brake light… occasionally, they go bad and need replaced. Should be easy to test.. Remove the switch and run ohms on your multimeter. Then push down the button on the switch and check for continuity. . You can also test by jumping the wire harness and seeing if the brake light comes on… also sometimes, they may just need adjusted..

i had the same situation with my brothers car, and it was the switch that is on the break pedal. to test it, i took the switch off, and popped it open, and worked the switch by hand to see if the lights would come on, and i managed to fix the old one by bending the worn switch back to where it would work

the switch is looking like the villain here (or at least part of it). i took it out and it tested bad on the meter. I thought i’d pop it open and it looks like garbage to me
