Followed Ericthecarguyvideo and I’m getting spark through the coil though to me it doesn’t seem strong. Replaced distributor cap and rotor. Still not getting spark to plugs. Is it possible to get spark at distributor but to weak to make it to the plugs? Thanks for the help.

Yes, it is possible. Check the ignition wires for proper resistance, especially the center coil wire. They should be approximately 3000 ohms per foot of cable. So, for example, if the ignition wire is 2 feet long, it should be about 6k ohms. If the resistance is higher it will weaken the spark. Also you can double check the position of the rotor and make sure it is seated properly on the distributor shaft and that it is making good contact with the center tower button on the cap. Did you replace the cap/rotor with OEM, or at least a quality aftermarket brand? I know from experience that some of the cheaper ones don’t work very well. If you put the old rotor/cap back on, does the spark quality improve? If so, the new cap/rotor may be bad.

Will check wires tomorrow. Car was running fine. Was backing in driveway and engine stumbled and stalled and hasn’t started since. Was checking spark with distributor cap off at coil spring. Not sure if it should but tried a post out of cap to ground for spark and didn’t get one there. Thanks for the help.

If you do in fact have a weak spark directly at the coil it could also very likely be the coil itself. Also did you test each cylinder post at the cap?

Checked distributor posts and don’t have spark there. In less someone can think of something else I guess I will put a new distributor on it since the ICM and coil are in the new distributor. Thanks

Thank you to everyone. Put in new distributor and started right up.
