I am posting this question as I am going to look tonight with a friend at his 96 Nissan Quest. He states he had someone change the ignition lock cylinder in his van awhile back. He explains now his old set of keys will start the van but the new key will not. I have not confirmed whether this is a key/ cylinder issue or a cylinder will turn with security issue. The way it sounds through brief conversation is the key and lock fit issue. Weird that old key would work. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions before I go in..?
If this is the case and his old key works, I don’t see why not leave it alone and make copies of the key as the lock cylinders are over $200.

If the old keys work either the cylinder was reused or the tumblers were redone to match the old keys.
They may have had the electrical portion of the switch replaced and thats why the cylinder was used.

Still dont have original story in full but it sounds like they broke a key off in it and were told they got a new lock with keys to boot. Dont know about old key/ new key situation. When I got there last night, this new lock is broke, spinning in place and starting without said key. Sounds like new lock time.

Replaced lock cylinder. Life is good again… Thankfully stuck key did not get in way. Was happy not to have to drill out.
