Hi guys, earlier today I was working on my car(under the hood) and when I had finished I went to close the bonnet but it wouldn’t close/lock in.. I youtubed the problem and the only video I could find told me that the locking mechanism wasn’t locking but didn’t say how to correct it.. I don’t know what to do, any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.. Oh by the way I was changing the oil and filter in the car and don’t think that had anything to do with the problem.. Thank you..

Hi again, I didn’t have any lube, but as the mechanism was filled with dirt and dust, I only had brake cleaner(canister) I applied that to the lock mechanism and cleaned a lot of the mess that was there and managed to close the hood.. Will using the brake cleaner have a negative effect on it??
Should be ok. I would not spray it on the paint. WD-40 is paint safe. After you get it cleaned up, I would use white lithium spray, or gun oil. CLP is my favorite. Cleans, lubricates, and preserves.
Since you got it closed, how was it trying to re-open it?
Yeah that sounds like a silly question but my sister had this problem where it would not close and someone at a shop managed to get it closed but then could not re-open it. Not sure how the shop fixed it.My sister knows just enough about cars to check the oil and add if needed.
