      Hi there,

I have adjusted the valves three times to the specified amount on the hood. I followed how to adjust exactly as in the video, arranging TDC as indicated on the camshaft pulley and adjusting 1-3-4-2 while turning the crank. I have adjusted while stone cold in the mornings. I cannot for the life of me figure out this ticking noise in the top end. Any ideas?

its kind of difficult to diagnose ticking noises or any noises on a internet forum… a ticking noise can be caused by a multitude of things.

I am not a honda expert but i know for a fact adjusting valves is not a easy task, i would make sure you are adjusting them correctly and to check for anything warn or bent or anything out of place too, it may not be your valves that are ticking could be something else, do you have a video of the ticking sound?

Here is a video I made when the idle was a little weird. The idle has since been adjusted, but you can hear the ticking when im not pressing the throttle.

I double checked the clearances and and they were within spec. No change in ticking noise. I am almost tempted to take it to the stealership.

Hondas have been known for cracked exhaust manifolds which can cause a ticking sound. Just google your car and ‘cracked exhaust manifold’ … plenty of stories out there.

                Good luck

I looked under the shield to inspect and nothing is cracked. I have seen what a cracked one looks like and this is normal looking. Is there a way to test for a crack? I have tried the rag over the tail pipe trick and didn’t notice anything different.

Yes, if you restrict the exhaust the noise should get louder…

                    Good luck..
