I have a 1996 full size GMC pickup that the rear turn signal bulbs keep melting the bulb base. The bulb is either a 3057 black flat base or a 3157 flat black base. Both will work as the only difference in the bulb besides the number is the 3157 is a little brighter when the running lights are on. I have tried both types of bulbs and eventually the little wire that goes in the bulb will melt into the plastic and not make contact with the socket connector. I enclosed a picture and hope it is readable.
Thanks,
MikeAddendum= I replaced the tail light circuit boards put in new bulbs and maybe that will fix it .
I thank everyone who responded with a very helpful answer.
