      Hey Everybody,

I’m continuing to work on my 96 Ram, its coming along great made a drive cross country with only a water pump pulley giving the death squeal. However it suffers from the cracked dash issue that many rams of its era have. I have the replacement dash top however when removing shunks of the dash I found the defrost door actuator and tried to adjust it to see if I could get the doors to work.

I managed to depress the cylinder only to have it spring back up on me. When depressed the blend doors did move recirculating air from the defrost to the center vents. I see a yellow wire possibly a vacuum hose at the base coming up to the dash switch. Is there a way to fix this part or is replacing the best option?

That’s a vacuum actuator, not really ‘adjustable’. It either works or it doesn’t when vacuum is applied. Hook a vacuum pump up to it and apply vacuum. If it holds vacuum, it’s good. You can also push the plunger in and put your finger over the vacuum opening. If the actuator stays in place when you block off the inlet, it’s good.

        More info here.

          Eric,

Thank you for the response, I got it sorted out this morning, one of the Vacuum lines dried out and there was no vacuum to the actuator.

          Thank You again,

          David L.

Nice! I like it when they’re easy. Thanks for the update and for using the ETCG forum.

It always seems to be the easy issues that look like complicated ones. Although, have you done a ETCG1 video on Vacuum leaks and do you take submissions for Fix It Forward Video Series?
