I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan, bought in the US, with the 3.0 v6 SOHC, essentially a Mitsubishi 6g72. Just rebuilt, when you come to a stop it’ll sometimes quit or it’ll just choke. But you can just drop it into park, crank it back up, and keep going. It doesn’t do it while going down the road. Any help will be appreciated.

Check iacv ‘intake air control valve’. sometimes the hose from the iacv to intake gets dirt inside it so a good clean does the trick.

It didn’t change. Anything else it could be?

It could be the crank position sensor, clogged fuel filter, or fuel pump.

The fuel pressure is easy to test with a gauge attached to the test port (schrader valve) on the front left corner of the fuel rail. Fit the gauge, turn the key on but do not crank, check for fuel leak, then crank engine if no leak. The pressure should be between 44 and 54 psi and stable.

Crank sensors can go bad without throwing a code. To test the crankshaft position sensor, disconnect the ignition coil and turn key to on. There are three wires at the sensor: a power, a ground, and a signal. It should have around 5v on the power wire, and continuity to ground on the ground wire. The signal wire should be either 0v or around 5v (the same as the power wire). With the positive lead of the voltmeter on the signal wire and the negative lead grounded, slowly rotate the crank pulley by hand with a socket wrench on the center pulley bolt (This is why you disconnect the ignition. You can also disable the fuel injectors as an extra safety measure). As the crank turns, the sensor should change from 0v to 5v and back to 0v as the crank turns. If it passes this test, remove the sensor for inspection, make sure it is clean and has no cracks. Replace the sensor if it fails the electrical test or shows signs of physical damage.

I already had the problem with the crank sensor (Wouldn’t fire) That’s brand new. It might be the fuel pressure, gonna have to go somewhere to borrow a gauge. Where’s the filter located on a 96 Caravan?

The fuel filter is located on top of the fuel tank near the pump. It isn’t inside the tank, but you will have to lower the tank to get to it.
