First of all greetings to everyone in the forumT)

I have a 1996 honda civic and i started experiencing a problem with it recently. If i put in full lock to the right, and then press the brake pedal i get this loud clunk to the driver side. The noise is exclusively present when i full lock it to the right however and press brakes, i took the wheel off, checked the caliper everything is tight as it should be i even went the extra mile by taking it off, taking out the pads, greasing the pad retainer clips at their contact points and then put it all back up together. Same noise. Its driving me nuts and it all happened out of the blue. I ruled out rod ends and inner tie rod ends because i got all those parts changed recently including ball joints etc. The car is lowered by the way, i have tein coilovers all around. Any advice?

Understood, but it happens even if i straighten back up. Example is if i turn fully to the right, and straighten up without touching the brake i hear nothing, lets say i keep driving in a straight line and then press the brakes i get the clunk but after that everything is normal. If i turn full right and full left i hear not a thing unless i press brakes. Could it be the caliper piston?

You mentioned that you just had some front end work done ( ball joints , tie rod ends , etc ) I would start there. make sure all those parts are tight ( including your strut assemblies )

Bad struts and strut mounts can cause a clunking noise.

okay i think ive finally found the problem, the mounts are bad especially the lower transmission mount well atleast thats what the mechanic said, i will get them changed asap and see if that works.T)

Yea engine mounts are something to check for sure, hence the reason for this weeks video.

Thanks eric. I changed the mounts saturday and the noise kinda went away, however i still have my stabilizer links to change although they dont seem to be bad to me but, will still give it a go. The only components that havent been changed under there are those and my control arm bushings. Somehow i think the bushings are shot and i will have to take a look at them friday and keep you posted. The next thing is, i changed the mounts however i filled them with poly urethane, and lord do i have some serious in car vibration when i stop lol. With all that said, the overall handling with these mounts has increased significantly.T)V-)

                          lol @ good times

Greetings to everyone once again, im here to conclude this post.

I have isolated the problem and found it to be none other than the upper control arm bushings. Yup they are toast, the reason for the clunking/cracking is because the arm moves freely back and forth when the car is either put into reverse or drive. This back and forth motion causes it to hit the chassis and the creaking noise thereafter was the actual upper control arm rubbing upon the chassis itself. The thing is that the problem camouflages itself to be so many other things, from bad mounts to bad shock mounts to bad shocks etc. I am grateful to everyone for their input but i just thought i would share this bit of information with you so that in the future, if you do get a cracking noise after pressing brakes when u reverse or going forward followed by a creaking/dryhinge noise …u might wanna check those before running off buying parts. The next thing is, i didnt get them replaced yet because lets face it, in these rough economic times…im kinda broke as well…lol so i took some polyurethane and filled them and i must say after letting it set…its as good as new.
