Hey all, I’ve been Googling and searching my Haynes manual for a few hours, but I can’t find an answer. I have a 1996 Buick Regal Custom with the 3800 Series II engine, and apparently the voltage regulator has failed. Interestingly, the tester found this fault both with and without the alternator plugged in; this seems to indicate that the voltage regulator is in fact not integrated into the alternator, yet both the Haynes manual and Google are yielding zero results either confirming or disproving this theory. Can someone please tell me if it’s integrated or not, and if not, where it’s located in the engine bay? Thanks!

        Its internal to the alternator.

Bah. So my best option is to replace the alternator?

P.S. So apparently a moderator split my post off into its own thread. I didn’t receive any notification of this action, so I initially thought that my post had simply been deleted due to breaking a rule. Is there supposed to be an automatic notification of such actions? If not, that’d probably be a good thing to add.

Replacement seems to be the only option.
