      Hey guys,
I have a 1996 Acura Integra LS, My car has been non operational for a while and everything i do doesn’t seem to solve my problem. The car use to lose power while driving with no warning and then instantly regain the power and drive. A few days go by and it still loses power while driving but this time it would just die and not start up, until 30 min later. I figured it had to do something with the distributor but i don’t have the money to buy a new one so I Bought a new Ignitor, coil, cap, and rotor. This solved my car’s losing power problem but now my check engine light is on and the tach jumps all around while driving and sometimes doesn’t read at all but i have no loss of power.

      1) Is it ok to drive with the tach doing this?
      2) Do i need to just replace the whole distributor?
      3) can there just be a possible wire shorting out in the distributor?
      4) Is it the distributor at all?

I think on that car.the tach gets the signal from the
distributor/ignitor.check the wiring. I think its a blue wire.
here is a sight for a wiring diagram.

all my connections are connected correctly i double checked. can those wires that connect to the ignitor go bad? is it possible that the igniter that i bought is bad?

is the ignitor OE or after market? Did the tach work
            before the new ignitor?

+1 Honda’s really don’t like aftermarket ignition parts. I know you say that things are hooked up correctly however make sure those connections are tight as a loose connection could cause an issue like that.

The ignitor is an after market part. I went down to my local O’reilly auto part store and bought master pro brand for the ignitor, rotor, cap, and coil. Yes the tach was working fine before i put in the new ignitor.

Are you thinking the new ignitor is bad?

I will check my connections again. Could this cause my check engine light to come on? OR do i need to get a code reader and check it out? The car runs and doesn’t die while i drive it now, The tach just bounces around every once in a while.

after market parts on Hondas can cause all sorts of
                    electrical problems.we suggest Honda OE.

Once again Honda’s don’t like aftermarket ignition parts. I’m not saying those parts are the problem but the only way to know is to swap them for OE parts. I would check the connections at the igniter first.

SO i went back to the auto part store and exchanged that ignitor for a different one and this new one is working properly. Thanks for all the help!

Do you guys know of any websites for check engine light codes. My car is giving me a 700 and 725 codes.

glad you worked out the issue.would rather have seen
you get an OE Honda part but it seems to be working.;)
as for the codes.go up to the top of the page click on
obd codes.you can look up all your codes.

Thanks for the update. +1 on the OBD codes, we also have a bunch of Honda/Acura OBDI and ABS codes as well as how to get them.
