I just returned from a 2 months holiday and started the wagon to do some shopping.

My windscreen wipers started working instantly when I turned the ignition and whatever I did with the switch they kept working then after a few minutes they would stop.

After restarting the car they would start working again, this happened twice but when I now turn the ignition they do not stop at all anymore.

I found out that if I remove the piece that is highlighted with the red square the wipers stop functioning when I turn the ignition on.

They will only start working when I put the control on the fast setting but on normal speed and interval nothing happens.

I also took the handle from my coupe and connected it and again when I turn on the ignition they instantly start working and I can not stop them no matter what position I put the handle

Anybody have any clue what could be causing this ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am at a loss.

      Jaak

By counting the plug pins in the picture.(5) it looks
like the intermittent relay. The relay could be stuck on.
check if coil voltage is present. ohm out the relay to see
if at rest the contacts are as shown. You could also check
power to the plug and work each position of the wiper switch
to see if the switch is changing position or always on.

The intermittent function gets it’s signal from the integrated control unit. This is usually mounted on the back of the fuse box. It can cause other strange issues also. I’ve seen issues with these in the past and it may be what you’re up against. Unfortunately it makes for an expensive guess on what the problem is.

                    Keep us posted.

                      Thanks for the replies guys,

I am a total zero when it comes to electrics and the last time I “read” an electrical diagram was Many moons ago, but where there is a will there is a way.
(Won’t mention how many years…still like to believe I am 18)

                      Will keep things updated.

Just wanted to say still working on this.
Fetched a multimeter today and will check this week and will post what I find out.

Cool. Keep us posted. As I said, take a look at the inputs to the wiper motor. If they’re not correct, look to the integrated control unit located on the back of the fuse box.

Well that took a while…better late then never.

Life got in the way but I finally fixed the issue.

It was indeed the Integrated control unit.
After I changed it all the functions returned to normal.
