Hello, I have a question that’s really bugging me. I am currently trying to remove my front drivers tire to replace the caliber but I cannot get the tire off for the life of me. I have tried sledging it, penetrating oil and more and more sledging. I’ve done every trick I possibly know to remove a tire and it still won’t come off. Where I live its -20 in the winter and I’m wondering if it’s frozen on as well?. Does anyone know any way to remove it?. I read that you can losten the lugs and do figure 8’s in a safe and empty parking lot?. Thanks everyone

Well, assuming you took the lug nuts off the wheel is obviously frozen to the hub. I would squirt a lot of penetrating oil in where the lug nut holes are in the wheel and anywhere it can get between the wheel and the hub. Give it some time. My F-150’s wheels were stuck on bad but enough penetrating oil and a rubber mallet helped get them off.

In the future, put anti-seize between the hub and the back of the wheel to stop this from happening again.

I was going to mention what you did about putting the lugs back on but slightly lose then driving around/braking in a parking lot. Do it at your own risk of course. And stop as soon as it lets loose or it may damage the rim.

Also, instead of hitting the tire which is just going to absorb the blow take a 12″ 2×4 and put the end on the rim and smack that real hard. Just keep at it. It doesn’t ever look like anything is happening, but every time you hit it you are creating little micro fractures in the corrosion. Just a safety thing… leave a few loose lugs on, and keep your toes and such clear. If you’re pounding on it you don’t want it coming off your jack stand or even worse having the wheel collapse off it if it does fall.

Oh yeah getting a 10lb dead blow at a parts store may even be better than the 2×4 sledge combination. You would be amazed at how hard you can hit with it since it’s easier to wield.

JayMann07, I really like your idea with the 2×4 against the edge of the rim then taking some serious blows around the wheel at different points. Assuming the 2×4 isn’t oak but rather pine (or a softwood 2×4), it should eventually dislodge without affecting the hub and other. Thinking outside the box…Something else I’d try if I was still in the snowbelt: Pour a bucket full of hot, steaming water over the contact points then let it rip. The metal might expand just enough to get a slight budge after a solid *smack*. Road salt sucks.

Thanks everyone. This is my first time taking the wheels off my truck truth being told. I’m going to try the 2×4 trick and if that does not work I guess I’m stuck trying the parking lot trick.

Hi, here I have a photo of my t100 Toyota with a stuck tire. I’ve tired using a sledge to take it off, driving it off in a parking lot and still no luck, I’m getting frustrated as to why or what I’m missing to take the tire off. If anyone has any other ideas please tell me I’ve also tried taking a 4×4 with a sledge to the side of the rim with no luck. Also have used penetrating oil. Please someone help
