I have a 1995 Mustang GTO, v8. When I brake, the RPMs and battery levels drop. The car feels like it is going to stall, then eveything comes backup and it stops. (It does stall when I have to slam on the brakes). I took it to my regular mechanic and he can find nothing. I have replaced my IAC, have a new battery.

Any ideas where to check next? My brother-in-law thinks it is something in the brake light line. Brake lights are operating as they should.

Leaky brake booster? Try clamping off the vacuum line to the brake booster and going out for a careful drive to see if the problem disappears. Be aware your brakes won’t work as well.

You could also try disconnecting the brake light switch at the pedal in case it’s a short, although a fuse should blow before the engine RPM and battery are affected by a short.

Sounds like vacuum issue, to rule out electrical you could pull the fuse and try some controlled stops in a safe area, think it is a 15 amp fuse located in the box lower right corner below the flasher. Check all your grounding straps as well.
