1995 Honda Accord 2.2 V-TEC SOHV – Intermittent Crank No Start

Have replaced: Main Relay/PGM-FI, Distributor Cap and Rotor, Grounding Lugs for Fuel Pump and Battery.

Checked: Pulled passenger foot well apart and unscrewed/checked ECU/Connections OK, output to distributor OK, Voltage to Coil/Ignitor OK, Checked for Spark OK, Battery Voltage OK, Fuel Pump wiring OK.

Conditions: Hot or Hot/Humid weather. Cabin is also hot/very hot 80-90+ deg F when it happens, if i open the doors sometimes if i am lucky it will start.
It will also start in mentioned conditions and if i can get it to start once that day it will keep running. It might be the next day ~6-8 hours it might start it might not on the 1st crank. I am very puzzled. Any advice would be appreciated 🙂

        Check your main relay

Ok. Sorry about that, the majority of that text was not on your post when I replied, and so I answered with the most common cause of Honda no-starts.

Next, would be the ignition switch. The electrical contacts in the switch are common to fail due to electrical arcs and cause your condition.

I do not think it to be the ignition switch but i will not rule it out. I am looking more towards the Coil or ECM. I have a replacement ECM on the way and will swap out and reply when i get it. Thanks again 🙂

Received replacement ECM today! The car was was under same/similar conditions and had same crank no start symptoms today that were mentioned above in original post.
Installed replacement ECM and it is turn key start and purrs like a kitten. I am going to let it set for a while and let it get hot outside again to see if it will malfunction again.
Also it seems to idle better when the A/C is running, it previously idled a little rough while it was running.
                Hopefully problem solved. 🙂

Honestly it’s extremely rare that a PCM would cause a no start issue like that. At lest in my experience. I think it’s more likely to be an ignition switch problem as suggested. Those are VERY common for that model and vintage.

Thank you for a personal reply! I have watched your videos for some time and they have helped me out alot with my Honda!

I wiggled the key as you suggested for about 2 mins while the car was running and had no issues. It has been cool lately because of rain and storms so I have not been able to reproduce no start conditions since i replaced the ECM. That being said i have been using the car today and took it the highway and had no issues.

Had hot enough conditions today to have a good test so I went out and it fired and ran on the 1st crank. Wiggled the Ignition again today just to double check and there were no issues.
