      Hello Everyone,

My friend’s 95 ranger front brakes get sticky when he brakes.

What do you mean by ‘sticky’? Do they pull to one side? Or lock up? Or… what?

I used to have a 1996 Ford Ranger where the brakes would get real sticky when ever it was raining meaning when I barely tapped the brakes during wet conditions the tires would almost lock up. It did that when the truck was brand new until I sold it 130,000 miles later.

You might want to check the brake lines. If any of them are leaking they can cause the caliper to drag.

Do you mean the brakes do not release all the way?
You could have a damaged or blocked flex line, or a bad caliper.
Jack the truck up and have someone hold the brakes on and loosen the bleeder valve on the caliper/wheel cylinder that you think is draging, then see if that wheel spins normal by hand.
              Keep us posted please.

Need more info but if by ‘sticky’ you mean they ‘grab’ as you brake that’s probably the pads themselves, the friction material has a lot to do with brake performance and not all brake pads are created equal. Aside from that make sure you lubricate all the parts that need lubrication with the correct lubricants, you can follow the info in this video to give you more details.

Yes, they grab. When my friend applies the brakes, even a little bit the car brakes grabs and the car “lunges” forward. The issue is intermittent and I am unaware of any specific time of day that it grabs on. I will have the pads all lubricated and checked. I will also check the lines and calipers. Thanks for all your advice and my apologies for the weak amount of information. If you have any other advice or questions, they are all welcome.

                    Best,
                    bwarren

I would make sure the pads aren’t contaminated with something (grease, etc) and make sure the caliper slides are free and easy like you said. Keep us posted.

Does he have rear drums on that vehicle too a make sure there correctly adjusted.

I agree check for contamination but also if they are ‘bargain’ pads you might consider replacing them. Be sure to lubricate all the moving parts with the proper lubricant’s as well and do a good adjustment of the rear brakes (if they are drum brakes) just for good measure. Here’s a video on disc brakes that can offer suggestion on the lubricant’s and where to put them.
