      Okay. I have a 1995 Ford Contour with a 2.5L V6.
I was driving it to the end of my driveway and the car just cut out. No Power to anything, even my windshield wipers stopped.
I thought that it must me main fuse in the power distribution box, but after a visual inspection of the fuses, they all look fine. What else could it be? Any help is greatly appreciated. I really need my car back asap.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.
I will definitely check my ground from the battery for looseness and damage, but there is not much I can do in the way of testing for voltage at the fuse plugs.
As you can see I pretty much destroyed the main fuses and the main fuse plug just getting the darn thing out.
Whoever designed that fuse setup was not thinking. The only way to get the fuses out is to get a pair of pliers and pull up Really hard on that plug so that you can get to the fasteners. Since it is made of plastic it just breaks. Also you cant just loosen the fasteners and take the fuse out, you have to take the fasteners all the way out… but I digress.
I’m going to take a look at the grounds tomorrow, and if I cant find anything wrong I’ll get a new plug and fuses from the dealer. I’ll get the fuses back in there and test for voltage everywhere.
        I’ll check back in a couple days 🙂 Here’s hoping it’s just a ground.

It’s difficult to do electrical work without the proper testing equipment. It does suck that you had all that trouble getting the fuses out. Keep us posted on your progress.

            Update.

I went out and got replacements for the main fuses and tried to get the socket piece for the fuses, but the part was discontinued.
I put the new fuses into the old socket and got everything to go back into place like it should, but there was still no power (as expected)
I tracked the ground cable from the battery to two different places, one attached to the body under the battery and one attached to the engine. I took them both off, cleaned them, and bolted them back into place, but there was still no power.
After checking everything over again I finally figured out that the positive battery connecter has another cluster coming from the side of the connector. I took off the copper piece that the wire cluster was connected to, sanded the paint off the side of the positive connector, put everything back and tightened it down and eureka! Everything works now.

HUGE Thanks to everyone who posted, Wayne613, college man, and EricTheCarGuy. You are the reason I have a working car now, can’t thank you guys enough.

Here’s a pic of the copper piece that is connected to the side of the positive connector

Yeah just got this job done today. I’m really happy everything works lol.

Now all I have to do is fix an exhaust leak and find out why I have a rolling idle on this same car lol. I might post on here again if I can’t find a reason for my rolling idle because I’ve never had to fix a rolling idle before.

Also major thanks to you sir for your descriptive and easy to understand posts 🙂

I’m happy to hear you found the problem. In the future check the voltage drop at the battery connection in the same way that was shown in the video that was posted. This would have proved out the battery connection with just one test and you could have avoided the whole mess with the fuses. Also those fuses have a window in the top for inspection. If the fuse was blown you would have seen it, trust me. When a main fuse like that goes you’ll see burn marks inside the fuse itself. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
