I have a 1995 ford f150 I bought that had been sitting a couple of years, the battery was dead when I bought it. After I bought it I put a battery in it I noticed that when I open the drivers door the theft light flashes, if I turn the key to on the engine will not turn over and the theft light stays on, if I shift the truck into neutral and turn the key the starter activates but the motor will not start, I’m trying to figure out if it’s because the theft system is interrupting the ignition or if it’s cause of an issue with the motor or bad just bad gas or other engine problems.

I don’t want to go through the trouble of replacing the engine only to find out the new motor will not start either because of a anti-theft system, is there a way to bypass or disable this theft system for example by disconnecting it or splicing wires together somewhere?
I did check all the fuses and none were blown.

Btw, this is what the truck looks like:

If the anti theft light is blinking. I would say
yes this is holding the truck not to start. is this
a factory item or after market alarm? either the key
is not being read or theres a problem with the security
module. do you have another factory key you could try?
are the door locks locking and unlocking?

It says on the dash “security” so it appears to be a factory PATS system. I can lock and unlock the doors with a remote and the key. Anybody know if the system can be bypassed somehow?

You may be at the mercy of a dealer scan tool here.

I know on some Chevy’s leaving the key in the ignition for 10 minutes KOEO will help any theft no start issues if the battery was disconnected for whatever reason.

I would take alook at a wiring diagram.

You need to do a re-learn procedure. Go online and look up how to re-learn your key to turn off the anti-theft system. Most cases you will need the original key, not the valet key. If this procedure doesn’t work, then you would have to take it to the dealer. They will be able to bypass it and get it running for you.

If the light glows steady, there is an error reading the key, pats module problem or the pats antenna cannot relay the transponder code to the module. Make sure you are using the correct transponder key. The system can be bypassed ONLY through j2534 reflash where one would untick the passive theft system before the module is programmed. There is no ‘re learn’ procedure that will correct this issue if there isn’t a good functional key. You do not have to call a dealer for this as many locksmiths have the stand alone device that will interface with the theft system to write new keys at a fraction of the dealers. There are some shops out there that have the technology to make these repairs but you will spend much time on the phone finding one. When you find that shop you need to keep them as they are the new future of carcare.
