Hey Guys Long time no post here I don’t know if that’s good or bad but lol recently I just put in A new ignition switch in my 1995 Chevy K 1500 Truck. I Put the switch in September of this year the reason why I put I new switch in was I have remote start and it wasn’t working correctly so I figured out it was the switch so I replaced it and it fixed it. everything is working great except this morning…. I went and started my truck and the dash lights came on as normal truck started and I looked at my gages and the ones on the right side were working just fine (Fuel, Oil pressure, temp, and volts) All were working but the tach wasn’t… so I shut it off and restarted it and the tach started working. im like okay WTF was that all about. I went and got fuel and it happened again started the truck and the everything worked but the tach. I shut it off and restarted it and it started working again. started driving and I then noticed something the transmission wouldn’t go into lock up mode it shifts through all the gears fine. my transmission is solid I take VERY good care of my truck I don’t beat it I take VERY good care of it she only has 183,000 miles on it and ive done filter and fluid this past summer so I know its not the transmission. ive checked to make sure my brake peddle switch wasn’t being stuck on and it was working fine. my cruse control even works. so im wondering if its not the switch again but I don’t want to replace it again… cant afford it. so im wondering If there is a way to MAKE it go in to lock up mode is there a wire I can jump to power to send power to the circuit. also there are NO check engine codes no at all. any info would be great thanks.

Did this problem happen after the ignition switch replacement?
You may have hit some wires or loosened something.

You don’t want to rewire the truck, you want to find the problem and correct it. I suspect that during the ignition switch replacement you moved or bumped something that’s not allowing the tach to work. It may be that signal is tied into the transmission to dictate shift points as well as lock up. If you ‘rig’ something, you’re not addressing the real issue which is the tach signal.

Arm yourself with information. A wiring diagram for starters to find out how the tach gets it’s signal and power. I suspect that’s where you’re issue is.

Just for the heck of it, check all the fuses first. It would be a shame to go through all that trouble for a simple blown fuse.

Your transmission sounds like it went into “limp home” mode.
