HELP!!! I have a Gen 3 LS non-vtec. I’ve been chasing a mystery vibration for over 3 months now. It just started out of the blue one day. Its present under all speeds all rpms and both under a load and not coasting with the clutch pressed. At first it would go away at 70 to 80. But not is there at all speeds. I worked my way backwards from the transaxle out to the tire. here is what I have replaced:

      Intermediate shaft
      cv axle
      wheel bearings
      upper control arm
      lower ball joint
      inner and outter tie rods
      caliper
      rotor pads

at this point I decided to replaces my shift linkage bushings because my shifter was extremly sloppy. After replacement I could also feel a hop in my shift linkage. So thinking that victory was mine and I had pointed myself directly to the notorious rear torque mount problem the gen 3’s have,
I had a friend (with mechanical knowledge) watch my engine while I did a forward to reverse pull and sure enough he say the mount was split at both contact points in the rubber.

So once again feeling that sudden elation of victory we bought a brand new mount and replaced the mount in record time (3 hrs) lol and without even having to remove the intake!! thank god for two inch extension and swivel sockets.

So after basking in our victory we take it for a test drive. Felt great vibration gone! Oh might I add we also replaced the cv axle with a brand new non reman axle at the same time. Well we got about two miles down the road and gradually but quite quikly the vibration came back!!!!

Now its worse than it has even been!! I love my integra and by no means want to let it go but this problem is killing me and making me despise this machine!!

Any input would be great, only thing I can think is maybe my frame is twisted. when on jack and tire on i put it in gear and you can clearly see the axle is spinning out of round (in a flopping motion) two alignments did not fix it either!!!

have you checked the wheels and tires? if you
jack up the the front end and put it on jack
stands.start the car and run the wheels.see if
the vibration is there.also look at those new axles.
all axles are not created equal.

I agree. On new all brand new part axle you might need 50 Km (20 mil) before the part used equally and have a smooth ride. But you might need longer time to have smooth turm whit brand new axles. I change mine last summer. The fist time I use It, It’s make noise for the first 1 km, (0.5 mil) because the axle bar hit some time the button of my car. The mechanic tough It’s was broken lol. But now, for the last 6 month, no problem at all.

You might need an alignment when you change axle and any part car direction. Miss alignment can cause excess vibration.

wheel balancing maybe? – try driving on your spare and see of it’s different.

well i did mention i got an alignment, so nix that. also mention i jacked the car up and spun the wheels in first and the right side axle isnt spinning true almost like the the axle wants to spin in an S motion

also the inner cv joint is loosing all its grease. its a brand new boot on there now with the same result. its sprayed so much grease the its having an effect on the brushes in my alternator. the car is dropped 1.5” in front but this problem started long after

Unfortunately, you might change the axle that have been replace It’s boot. The bearings are ok but the axle joint are in problem. Normal these joint will move easier in time. I will lubricate these joints and use a test drive. If It’s refuse and make noise until 3 mil road test, I would replace It. The car drop 1.5 inch in front, It’s the result of coil spring suspension that are lower. For the alternator, the brunches are electrical contact and the grease are an insulator for electricity and I will use brake cleaner spray to clean It..

I was the one that lowered it the 1.5″

A failing inner CV joint will cause one hell of a vibration under load. Did you say yours went away when coasting?

Lowering the vehicle will change where the axle sits in the inner CV joint. I’d replace that axle and recheck for the vibration. Keep in mind vibrations are caused by rotating assemblies NOT suspension parts. It would also be a good idea to check the wheels and tires.

Well we finally diagnosed the problem. It turned out this car was in a nasty fender bender and the frame of the car was no longer straight and neither was the left side lower control arm, and in turn pretty much everything on that side was out of whack. So here is how I solved the problem:

                          1. Bought a brand new axle
                          2. Drove the car to my favorite car dealer
3.Traded it in for a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon GT

And boom just like that problem solved and on to my newest ROAD WORTHY project car:) I LOVE Integras but this one …. no longer…
Someday I will own a nice 2001 gs-r or maybe if I’m real lucky a type-r but for now ill just work on fitting a garret Turbo setup on my Tiburon! Stay dirty indeed!

That is one way to solve it. Thanks for the update.
