did you already check you’re egr valve and check the cat converter to see if those 2 are not clogged
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435881I would look at fuel pressure and vacuum leaks to start. also when was the last time the car had a tune up? C8-)
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435882i know the cat converter is new as for the last time the car had a tune up i dont know i bought the car used but iam sure it hasnt been tune up in awhile
where is the egr valve at and how do i check it? i would assume a tune up would be new plugs, plug wires, etc what else for a tune up?
thanks
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435883before we go parts shopping lets check the fuel filter and fuel pressure. also search for some vacuum leaks. C8-) check out Erics video on finding vacuum
leaks.February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435884ok and for checking fuel pressure iam sure i will need a gauge for that right?
yup i just watch erics video on vacum leaks very good video!!!
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435885Yes you will need a fuel pressure test gauge as well as knowing what the desired pressures should be at KOEO and KOER.
You also may want to tap a few times on the IACV with a screw driver to see if the idle will change due to a sticking or fouled pintle valve.
Do you have any issues at idle when you turn on any electrical accessories or is the problem only evident while stopped at a traffic light or stop sign?
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435886ya that is what i though i will need a fuel pressure gauge 🙁
as for your other question hummmm iam not sure i will have to turn something on to see
it seems the idle is worst when its cold outside if that makes any sense
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435887as dreamer suggested try tapping on the Iac to see if the idle changes. you could remove it and try to clean it.
February 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #435888+1 to college man and dreamer2355. All great place to start looking for what might be the issue(s).
The throttle plate might also need a good cleaning. If you do clean up t
February 22, 2012 at 11:00 am #435891I don’t think you would need a fuel line disconnect tool for that 94 Ford. Usually all you need is a flat bladed screw driver. However, if you do need the quick disconnect tools, most auto parts stores will sell the sets for around $10.
Also, if still would not hurt to try pulling KOEO and KOER codes on that Ford.
February 22, 2012 at 11:00 am #435892you can rent a fuel pressure gauge at most auto parts stores, a lot of them will rent it to you for free.
February 22, 2012 at 11:00 am #435889Normally with performance problems you want to first check for check engine lights, fix and repair those first. If you don’t have any check engine lights check the basics like your plugs and wires, replace the fuel filter if you can, checking the fuel pressure is a good idea as well but I would not assume a fuel pressure problem right away but don’t rule it out as a possible cause. I’d also check for vacuum leaks, voltage leaks, and do a power balance to see if it’s just one or more cylinders that are effected.

February 24, 2012 at 11:00 am #435893They had check engine lights in 94 they were just OBDI not OBDII meaning there is a different procedure for getting and interpreting any codes it might have. The best place to start in a situation like this is is with the simple stuff so be sure to check the ignition system, the fuel pressure, and for any vacuum leaks.
