      UPDATE: I went to see the car, unfortunately mice lived in the car. Odor was bad. I worked on the car for a while. Interior was in good condition after some cleaning but there would be no way to get that odor out of this car. Too bad. I was looking forward to starting it. All the fluid levels were low, so I believe the engine would need an overhaul so I scraped that idea. Moving on!!
      She said she had it up to 125 mph so I am assuming that was the last time she drove car.

      I am picking up a 1994 Honda prelude that has not been started for 5 years from a co-worker. I have somewhat of a plan of action to get the car started. I will empty the gas form gas tank , maybe add sea foam and some new gasoline. I will change the oil and oil filter and maybe fuel filter. Of couse battery is dead so I will replace the battery; Any suggestions for additional procedures that I can perform on the car before I try to start car?

        I actually made a video on this some time ago.

        But you should also be aware of this.

        I don’t recommend the sea foam. You don’t want to break up the sediment in the tank and send it into the engine.

          WITHOUT watching Eric’s video, OP, you want to remove plugs, pour a bit of oil into each plug hole, disable spark and fuel supply and crank engine from starter, or crankshaft bolt maybe 5-6 turns to lubricate cylinder walls.
          Otherwise, either replace the plugs or burn them electrodes white hot with propane torch. Maybe clean battery terminals, it depends. Add some fuel stabilizer to the tank, as in – flush it in with petrol. Then go for it. DO NOT REV ENGINE.
          Modern cars are surprisingly good about this sit-start thing. Neighbor across the fence had Subaru sitting covered in weeds for some like 6-7 years, before county stepped in and told them to rid of it. Owner, a female, simply started the car after about 3 attempts, some smokes initially, and drove her away.

            Should I just fill gas tank with 92 octane after I drain old gas instead of adding a less abrasive gasoline treatment with the gas? Eric did not recommend sea foam which I was initially going to add. He said sediment may get loose and get sucked into the engine.

              Why? Hondas actually do NOT like high octane petrol. I wouldn’t be even draining petrol in the tank. Simply ad some stabilizer.
              As of Seafoam. I am HUGE Seafoam fan. But for Seafom to work, you need to get engine real hot and running for long time under high RPM, so that carbon deposits, released by Seafom, simply burn out. Which is, in practicality, get on FWY and drive at 70 for 2 hrs with Seafom in tank.
              You are not there yet, right? Your job is to start her up, and get her to stable idle.
              You have much more to worry about. Rust and lack of lubrication in ball joints, tie rod ends. ATF qulity, assuming it’s automatic. All gaskets and seals gone dry, from lack of lubrication. Engine would have been my last concern.

                Right, I go see the car Dec 5 barring any snow. If it looks good and I can start it I will rent a trailer to take it home; since the travel will be over 90 miles,I don’t want to chance getting stuck on the way back. It will be a project but I think it will be fun.

                  Dry rot of all rubber bushings and parts is likely worse enemy than engine itself. You’ll really need to check all control arm and trailing arm in the back bushings. Pick a good video or 2 on how to check on suspension components and go from there.
                  You don’t want to drive down the road and your front wheels suddenly decide to head in opposite directions.
                  Good luck. If I were you, unless you have nice and warm garage with lift, I’d have had this project postponed till late spring. She set for 5 years, she can sit a bit more. Just put battery minder on and start her up every other week/let run till she warms up to norm. But actual driving needs further under carriage components inspection.
