      Hey folks,
I been trying to make some progress on a Honda Civic. It smokes (white smoke) and goes through coolant , It hasn’t overheated i don’t let it get hotter than half way on the gauge if I can help it. It has died without warning not often but does happen. ( electric system intact but won’t crank, no click) if I let it chill for a moment it will jump back to life like nothing happened. There’s a vibration when I accelerate at times. A few months back it was spraying Coolant under the hood and ofcourse smoking if it was operating at temp.
      No check engine light.
The abs light is on though(hasn’t run codes yet)
      I replaced the
      upper radiator hose,
      Brake fluid
Added oil a few months back

      But I’m at a loss

(Side note, the front end is a little pushed but there’s no dents in radiator from what I see)

With the white smoke and it going through coolant im thinking bad head gasket.

Have you checked the oil to see if it has coolant mixed in it?

Should look like a chocolate milkshake or a cup of coffee with cream.

It’s brown but I’m not sure if it’s chocolate brown.

One way to check is to pull the dipstick and take a lighter and heat the end and if it crackles pops and spits there is coolant in the oil.

Just lit, no pop. Carried the flame over the tip the oil just came right off, it’s 55 degrees in Denver right now, it ofcourse smoked from the oil being lit but nothing else just drove a short around the corner distance parked turned off.

OK the next thing i would do is to pull all 4 of the spark plugs to see what they look like but just don’t mix them up keep them with the cylinder you removed them from.

Now what you are looking for is the plug or plugs that different in cleanliness than the others and what this means is the coolant is getting into the combustion chamber.

The cleaner one will be the cylinder the coolant is getting to hopefully just the head gasket and not a warped or cracked head.
