      Hello,
My f-150 has a stick shift and it has a few tranny issues, let me start off, I have to hold in my clutch at stoplights, the reason being is that if I am stop and release my clutch in neutral, when the light changes and I try to put it back in gear, It grinds terribly, however if I am at speed (5-25 or so) I can put it into gear without issues, people have been telling my syncros, however from what i hear it should grind at speed as well if not more, does anyone have any ideas?!?

      Thank y’all

I would have to go with the syncro theory. What happens is while your moving
the gears line up. when you stop they don’t. Either the sycros are worn or the
        syncro gear.

Ford used several manual transmissions in their trucks depending on the year etc. The heavy duty 4 speed was a balky SOB especially in first and reverse gears. It took finesse to get them into gear without grinding.

The other was the ZF 5 speed trans and was very smooth shifting unless you filled it with anything but ATF fluid.
If it has been filled with 80W90 or similar gear oil the syncro rings could already be damaged.

I have the 4 speed with overdrive transmission, the one they use with the 300 I6, and also as you can tell from my username, I have a 1994 model.
