The cruise control in my 1994 Astro kicks out on its own after varying time spans. Sometimes it takes as much as a half hour other times just a few minutes. Once it kicks out it doesn’t seem to stay on as long as it first did but not always.
It can be resumed using the Resume Button or, and this is the weird part, just accelerating just a few mph above where you had originally set it.
I have checked the vacuum hoses and replaced many just incase and the switch on the brake pedal looks ok. The servo diaphragm has no discernible leaks and I’m stumped. Thought maybe the electronic control package under the dash board? Don’t want to start buying and array of parts which are quite expensive and have them not be the problem.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?
      Any ideas?

      Thanks

this subject intreasts me, as I also have a ’94 astro with non-working “CC” Mine is just broke, checked vacume best I could, I think mine is an electrical connection issue, as it does not work at all. however, what are your driving conditions? most “CC” setups are designed to auto-off if there is more then a 10mph increase, or decrease in vehicle speed without adjusting the set point. I simply ask because I have driven mine up some medium grade hills, and the 4.3 vortec coupled with a 2.5 ton AWD is not the perfect setup for hilly terrain and it seems a “bit” under powered in terms of keeping speed while climbing a medium grade without shifting a lot. hope to see some “whats happening” posts soon!

Does your vehicle have a vacuum reservoir? check vacuum lines to it? Mine on my 98 Neon is under the battery just forward of the wheel well on the driver’s side. Just a black plastic box with a couple hoses attached to it.

I travel the interstates here in Florida and what I was talking about was setting it at 72 MPH and while criusing on level highway (Florida is Flat)it just kicks out and then evertything I said goes on

Yes I do have a vacuum resevoir and the lines going to it are ok. I was thinking something else probably, being that as soon as it kicks out I can reset it and it will work. I would imagine if the vacuum resevoir was depleted from leakage there would not be enoough reseve to reset it. And again resuming via just accelerationg back to where it was set shouldn’t even be possible.

              Thanks

Is the servo securely mounted. When I first got my Wife’s Neon it had the same problem with the cruise. The 2 nuts that were to secure the servo were only 1. One was missing and allowed the servo to move thereby allowing the servo wire to slacken and kill the cruise. Put another nut on the stud without one tightened both down and haven’t had it cutoff since.
