With an issue like this the best place to start is with any check engine lights you have. If you don’t have any check engine lights check your tune up items, plugs, fuel filter. One thing to keep in mind is that the bulb for the CEL might be out so it’s not a bad idea to hook a scanner up and check for codes anyway. How does the engine run after you start it? Does it idle OK?

If you don’t have any check engine lights then you might check the fuel pressure. Sometimes the check valve in the fuel pump goes bad and allows fuel pressure to bleed off too quickly and it creates a hard starting condition. The test is to hook the gauge up while the engine is running then shut it off. It should be able to hold pressure for at LEAST 30min, if it doesn’t then this may be the issue. This video may also help.

Eric, is it possibly an issue with the fuel pump’s live feed? I remember a friend of mine having an issue with starting on a c1500 silverado and it was traced back to the pump not having a live feed to build pressure prior to start up

If you suspect something like that you can test for the feed to the fuel pump and you can also check fuel pressure. Don’t make assumptions about other things that have happened to other peoples cars, take the time and do the testing to be sure.
