I know i’ve asked questions about this same transmission but I would like to know is whenever I shift into 1st gear while at a stand still it makes a loud bang or pop and lurches forward and the whole cab bounces around. Is this normal? Is it a problem?

Obviously, It’s a problem. Normally, shifting should be smooth. Manual transmission on car and truck use the same technology. Braking pad to change gears instead of automatic transmission relying on fluid pressure. The synchronizer brase cone can be used when you shift and the clutch disk be an issue (7 ins in the video). A fail clutch pad will not allow you to shift. A deeper investigation must be made by a transmission specialist.

March 9, 2014 at 1:36 am #579523It has a brand new clutch though
March 11, 2014 at 3:42 am #579865Ok ! The clutch is new, this is good to know that your gear stop before you shift. Might be you kust shift at high rpm.
March 11, 2014 at 3:57 pm #579933The new clutch may not be set up or installed correctly. What you describe sounds like an issue with the transmission not being disengaged from the engine when shifting gears. If the clutch does not fully disengage the transmission it will still be spinning when you go to engage a gear. If this happens, it often exhibits the symptoms you describe.
Good luck and keep us posted.
March 15, 2014 at 3:39 am #580569Well i dont know if this is linked to the problems i’ve described in my other thread? I mean it all started when the whole fuel system had water in it and it seemed to screw everything up because the truck would smoke alot when it had water in the system, she would only reach a max speed of 45 mph on I-95, when I would shift into 5th gear she would bog immediatly down and a louded growling sound would come up from the trans mission when it had water in the fuel system. They first put the turbo in but the truck still ran the same. Then they flushed all the lines a fuel system out and it worked fine just the transmission still is pucked up. all this happened when it got water in the ststem. I would like to know how the water would cause the issues it did before and if it’s linked to whats wrong now also. Because ever since then it continues to slam out of 3rd even when you try to hold it in it whips out, and 1st gear never seems to want to go in it can take up to 10 times to slam 1st in.
March 15, 2014 at 4:39 am #580590The water can got in if the the gas cap gasket is worn. You might have a lock diesel cap to avoid people putting water in It too, just in case. It’s seen the snifter or synchronize have a problem. Because if the pressure plate would not disengage, you will have the same problem as gear one with all the other gear, even you will no be able to shift. Overtime, if you try to shift gear when the pressure plate is not disengage, you are going to tear appear your gear.
Personally I will lock my gas cap,use manual transmission and even a engine transmission conditioner to help gear slide better before tring to repair more things. It’s look like minor.

March 15, 2014 at 6:02 am #580606well what I would like to know is how would the water cause all this to happen?
March 15, 2014 at 4:23 pm #580647Diesel is ignite by compression only. Diesel is more inflammable then gasoline. When a a gas state element is compress, you have a heat raise because all the gas state element collide between then. The diesel need to reach a specific temperature to trigger the explosion ( exothermic chemical reaction). When a wood ignite, you need to have a minimum temperature to keep burning. So when water is ad in the system, It’s cool the cylinder and avoid the nex explosion. So your engine work not properly and even stall.

March 15, 2014 at 4:44 pm #580651I don’t know. Manual transmission don’t use fluid presion from the engine to change gear. So really, I don’t know how It’s affect It. I hope the pressure plate was brand new. Otherwise, you seem to have 2 different issues. One from the engine and the other from the transmission.
March 15, 2014 at 4:57 pm #580653Well the water was in the tank for about half a month and we finally told the boss we aren’t driving that truck no more. well they put the new turbo in and it still din’t work. They cleaned the injectors and all and the engine was said to be running fine and no. Then they said they cleaned the fuel system and she still smoked alot but didn’t run 45 mph anymore. Now IDK with water if it would cause a buring smell but whenever we would get on the highway, I would look in my mirror and see nothing but smoke. I would lean my head out the window and look straight down and see all the smoke was coming from underneath the engine. That’s not where the exhaust is I thought to myself. It was white smoke like coolant was being burned and it smelled like oil was burning. I still get a hint of that smell whenever I unleash the turbo on I-95( i love doing that because I never got to use a properly working turbo til’ now in this truck). Could the turbo when firing up and causeing that burning smell, the transmission not wanting to shift, and the transmission always whipping out of gear( i would say jumpout but it’s too aggresive and fast to be a jumpout) be caused from the water in the system had worn everything down prematurely?
March 15, 2014 at 5:04 pm #580657Turbo can leak oil when the turbine of the turbo gasket is worn. The oil is need to lubricate the bearing inside the turbo. But this fail not emit whit smoke. A head gasket can emit white smoke and burn oil instead of the turbo.
March 15, 2014 at 5:16 pm #580659alright well thanks for your help bud. Thanks to you I now understand how the water in the system screwed up that engine but I would be able to understand better about the transmission when it doesn’t go in gear and when it whips out if someone was to make a video about like if ERICTHECARGUY could. I’m not trying to beg for him to make a video about this problem but I would just want to better understand the transmission problem by watching how the gears would slip out if its the sychronizer whats it doing to screw everything up. I’ve looked for videos about these probs i’ve watched the vids you’ve recommended and they really don’t touch that subject. I was sort of hoping that ERICTHECARGUY would touch this subject on his latest live video about 2 days ago but he didn’t.

March 15, 2014 at 5:31 pm #580663You helped me find out what could be causing the tranny to be going out but i would like to have a further investigation like be taken through all the things that could be happening in like a vid. But thank you bud!!!
