Hey guys, have a 1993 Honda Accord with an automatic transmission. Mileage on car is 255000. When the car shifts from 3rd to 4th it shifts or goes into 4th hard. I change the trans fluid at the recommended intervals. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to fix? Thanks, Jim

First, Hondas really like Honda transmission fluid. If you were doing your fluid changes with anything other than Honda fluid, this can contribute to problems like this. Next, is your D4 light flashing? If it is, then there’s a code stored for the problem. The next step would be to pull the code and take things from there. Here’s a video on how to do that.

That said, that’s a lot of miles. It may just be worn out and in need of replacement. More information on transmission problems, including specific information on Honda transmissions here.

Thanks Eric, and yes, I only use Honda transmission fluid. The D4 light does not flash, but it does light up when I turn the ignition key to the on position, then will go out after a few seconds, is that normal? Is the D4 light supposed to light up or not light up when the key is switched to the on position? Thanks in advance, Jim
