I have had a weird problem out of my truck here in the last few mouths!!!
I was losing water every 500 miles or so!!! It would be about a gallon maybe a little less…
I noticed that there never really seemed to be any pressure on the cap or hoses (I blew this off bc my truck run cool anyway)
It runs on the first line ( http://www.carsnmorescottsburg.com/Vehicle17.html ) My gages look like this.

I let it go on for about 3 mouths and Finley started asking questions -As soon as I did the dang water pump went out.

So I changed the water pump and I got a new rad/caap

I drove the truck about 40 miles or so miles that day after the change -There was dang sure pressure in the system now. But it gets kinda weird here.
There was about a 1/2 cup of water missing none in to overflow!!! You could see the water just below the top rad/house… so the next day I got up and made sure the system was filled to the top…
I went less then a mile down the road and then came home….
About 20 mins went by and I went out to check again and wtf the water is down to the same area. with no water in the overflow.

Ok wtf is going on???? I understand some systems wont keep the RAD full and kick the excess into the overflow buts there no water in there???

I lost the same amount going less then a mile then I did going 40 miles both time wear in town!!!

I get no smoke from my truck. .
I dont blow water out the pipe.
      No missfires.
      No antifrezee smells
      No leaks.

I went threw the engine about 6mths ago (All new upper end gaskets)
I used the copper coating on the head gaskets (I wasnt sure How to use this stuff ) I spyed the coating on and then put them on with the heads and waited a day to start the engine.
Some one told me to let them dry for 24hrs before putting them on with the heads???? idk could this be a problem…..

      Please give me your idea…
Thanks for yalls time God bless!
Look for my other topic weird oil psi!

This video covers much of the basics to check if you have a cooling system issue.

This is kinda my DIY cooling system test procedure, but if you take a regulator, a blow gun, and one of those rubber stoppers the size of your rad. opening, you can pressurize the system (no more than the normal operating pressure of your system) and look/listen for leaks. Could be leaking into your oil, out your exhaust, or just out of the top of the motor. Note that someone needs to hold the blow gun in the radiator opening.

Did you make sure to completely purge the air out of the cooling system? I recently had dealt with a problem similar to this, however coolant was leaking, just out of the heater core and took a while to drip out of the weep hole for the condenser. Just something else to check.

Loosing a little coolant over time is normal. At least half of the coolant is water and over time it does ‘boil off’ which means you’ll have to top off your coolant from time to time normally. If you’re only loosing a few cups of fluid every oil change I wouldn’t worry about it. Also, make sure you’ve bled all the air out of the cooling system as this is imperative for proper cooling system operation.
