The rear drums on my escort will not come off. Tryed hammer beating and the two 10 mil bolts. Even heated them up with torch. Now there are the two screws that fasten drum to hub they are so mangled not even funny. What can (should) I do????? I am at the point where I am about to go to junkyard and buy whole rear end and swap em out. I have every tool imaginable at my disposal. So any feedback would be awesome. Thnx

Take a drill to the head of the bolts to remove the head of screw. If you do not have a hand impact to drive them off that is the only way to do it. Them screws are not needed. If you can find the proper thread of a metric bolt which, is the same size as the 2 screws holding drum on, you will see 2 threaded holes that you may be able to jack that drum off. Before doing that, use a small ball peen hammer to set a good vibration around the drum to help break any corrosion apart.
There is no wheel spin type adjuster on them. It is a slide like with teeth on each meeting point that bites to each other when setting up the shoe. Probably will not be able to find away to back it off, just a little cursing will work!

          +1 with the above suggestions.

Once those screws are out, there may be a adjuster than can be accessed by a hole in the backing plate to retract the shoes, again depending on what type of rear drums you have.

Looks like the forum is on this one I really don’t have anything else to add. Good luck.

              1. Is your parking brake on? If it is, take it off (just make sure that your car has chocks behind the wheels so it won’t roll. The parking brake could be holding on the drum.
              2. Did you use a brake spoon on the back of the drum to turn the little wheel/adjuster inside to pull the shoes inward?

Those are the only things I can think of that would hold a drum on that tight.

You could also try and grind the head of the bolt off also, then once the drum is off, use some vice grips and work the last piece of the bolt out by unscrewing it.
