      The vehicle should run directly from the battery. Vehicles will continue to run if an alternator fails up until the reserve capacity of the battery has reached it limit._x000D_

        I had already set the cam to the correct position with the word “TOP” at the top. The distributor is connected directly to the cam shaft so I shouldn’t have to worry about being 180 degrees out of phase.

          Ok I’ve found someone who will let me borrow a compression tester if needed.

            I think you might be being a bit overly cautious, if you’re only off a tooth or to worst case you won’t bend valves and if you already have bent valves who cares at this point.
