1993 accord 2.2, picked it up for my daughter last week,,,,I have cleaned and adjusted the IACV, FITV and TB (replaced the gasket as well),the EGR plugs are new and seem to have been removed and replaced, I assume that the ports were cleaned. I also have checked for vacuum leaks as per EricTheCarGuy w/carb cleaner over every vac source including the intake. Topped off and burped the cooling system, unplugged the IACV while running and the idle drops but surges quickly only rising 100-200 rpm.

I am a little lost at this time and would appreciate any suggestions, I know my way around most cars (had a shop years ago)but Honda is one I am not that familiar with.

Try tapping on the IAC with the handle of a screw driver
to see if the idle changes. If it does replace the IAC.

The part that I saw in the vid that is white plastic and you turn it all the way down till snug.

Thats the fast idle control valve not the IAC.
the IAC has the electrical connector the other
does not.when to adjusted the FIcv once you bottomed
it out did you back it off a 1/4 turn.

I backed the FICV off 1/4 turn and it made no difference.

Did you try bleeding the cooling system? They can cause idle issues on certain vehicles.

Thought I would chime in here. First of all, just joined the forum and am definitely a fan of Eric the Car Guy. Second, I have the same annoying “bouncing” idle in my 1998 Manual Honda Prelude.

About a week ago I decided to clean out my Throttle Body and remove the carbon build-up. My idle was a little bit lower than it should of been and the pedal seemed kind of sticky. Well I removed the air intake, and the Throttle Body, cleaned out the TB with TB cleaner, cleaned and moved down the FITV, replaced the TB gasket, replaced the two coolant lines and clamps leading to the FITV, and finally re-assembled everything. Well now I have the infamous “idle from hell” with my idle in neutral surging from 1000 rpm to 1500 constantly. The only change I have noticed is if I remove the TPS sensor, the surging stops, but the car idles at a high 1500 rpm.

For what it’s worth, I do believe that at a previous point in time, the idle screw was adjusted, but I could not adjust it when I tried. So I may be assuming a little too much.

I’d like any input at all before I go crazy trying to fix this idle. Thanks!

Yes it is quite frustrating when you try to fix it and it gets worse. I dont think my TPS is bad because the changes were effected by cleaning the IACV and the idle was low before and now it surges, the TPS was not touched. Vacuum leaks are what I looked for to solve this but found none using the method shown in the vid.

Is there a hidden vac line that sometimes poses a problem maybe,,,,,there is something simple I am missing and you are right it can drive you crazy.

Just because you cleaned the IAC does not mean it works correctly.
see if this video helps. did you adjust the idle screw?
