      Hello,
I have bought Eric’s video on showing how to do the timing belt and it was of a great help to me! as this is my first timing belt change ever(n00be ).

So i got #1 piston TDC everything line up, and i was able to take the camshaft bolt out. and lower T-belt cover, my issue is this now:

The camshaft sprocket marking (front and back ) and pulley, Distributor pointing #1 , and the flex point dead on while marking and are all TDC , except when i took the lower T-belt cover , noting is aligned ?!!!! balance shaft, oil pump drive are not on time 🙁

      Question 1:
How or what is the trick to get the car back on TDC after loosen the Crankshaft bolt. (option #1 if i got clockwise am tighten the bolt back on ! “I tried it and i had to stick the hoes again to loosen it back” . option #2 is to go Anti-clockwise which unscrew the bolt before i can get it to TDC)

Here is a video i took to show what i am seeing with this problem:

Please help me as i am stuck

      Thank you in advance

Do you have access to air tools or an electric impact?

Was the engine at TDC even before you removed the timing belt?

If the crankshaft is rotating as you are trying to remove the bolt for the crankshaft pulley, you need to find another method to stop the flywheel from moving.

You could possibly try a strap wrench to hold the pulley in place or an old drive belt.

You could pull the starter and wedge a prybar against the flywheel as well.

You really need this tool if your having a hard time getting the crank bolt off.

Thank you all for you help and support. like i said i have the camshaft sprocket on TDC, the crankshaft sprocket is aligned with the timing mark on the engine block , the Oil pump drive sprocket is of timing (exactly like the one on Eric’s video) so i can adjust that like how Eric did! the ONLY one that is not on TDC is the balance shaft and the engine block! that is driving me crazy .

If you watched Erics video on how to do it, then just do everything like he did.

Thank you actually being so scared to mess things up, i didn’t pay attention to it. i do apologize , you are 100% correct and i was wrong 🙂 cheers and thank you one more time

So the only problem is the rear balancer not being lined up? According to the instructions for this process:

                    1. Align the rear timing balancer belt driven pulley using a 6 x 100 mm bolt or an equivalent, mark a line at 74 mm.
                    2. Align the rear timing balancer belt driven pulley by inserting the bolt through the maintenance hole.

I found this in the free Chilton’s manual link someone posted on this site. It includes diagrams which show how to do this part. Take a look and see if that helps you.

I guess it is possible someone did this before you and mis-aligned it, that would explain why you are having problems. I think Eric’s video assumes it’s not screwed up to begin with so IIRC he doesn’t do it this way.

Let us know how you make out.

I have never seen his timing belt video’s so you may have to wait until he or someone else who has done the same timing belt change replies.

I would assume the bolt was reinstalled though.

no it was not. i read different threads in different forums and it all advice that the bolt should not be re installed. so i think he did mean not to install it and assumed that everyone else doing a job like that should already knew about it T-(

other than that his video is really helpful and did help me alot.

that being said; I would like to thank all of you those who helped by answering my question. i am done with the project.

                        Thank you again

                            Ok quick question:
Did Eric meant not to install the timing belt tensioner bolt, the one that it spring hook to the left (Not the one its spring hook to the water pump, not the one he made it with rubber).

I noticed he did not. please advice

Its very interesting about that bolt not being installed. I wonder what the reason behind it is.

Your timing marks are WAY off but if you watch the video it shows how to set up the timing on the balance belt should this happen, I would suggest going back and watching that section as I show in detail how to deal with that very situation, I also showed that you need to break the crank bolt loose before you take the belt off so you can align the marks before you take the belt off to make installing the new belt easier.

I get a LOT of questions about inserting the bolt in the back of the block to hold the rear balance shaft in place, you can do this but I have found this step not to be necessary if you follow the steps in the video.

Thanks for the update regarding the bolt Eric. I need to invest in those timing belt video’s as i have never done a timing belt change on a Honda.
