      -1992 dodge stealth base 3.0 v6 SOHC model 5 speed.
      -USA
      I recently bought a 1992 dodge stealth that had been sitting for 10 years. I’ve been slowly piecing the car back together trying to figure out what has went badrotted over time. I’ve already replaced the ECU, IAC, and spark plugs. the car will start and run for a few minutes then the fuel pump begins to make a loud surging whine(however, previous owner had just put a new fuel pump in before i bought it, but he took out the two way valve that was back there and ran it straight hose). I also pulled the vacuum hose off of the fuel pressure regulator and ran it to see if maybe it was spitting gas, it was not. This car is federal emissions and doesnt have egr valve etc… I know the valve seals need to be replaced as well, oil burning oil coming out of the tailpipe, fouling plugs etc..The car also hesitates if i push the gas petal down too fast.           UPDATE: read the obd1 using the voltmeter pin 1 and pin 12 method, it continously read coolant temp sensor, so I replaced it. Still reading the same code after the battery negative terminal had been unhooked. the car will barely idle on its own when first started up in the mornings. after its been started if you give it gas, as soon as the rpms drop it will die. there on out if you start it you have to feather the gas to keep it running, as soon as you let off it dies.

            With a vehicle that sat for that length of time, it could be a number of issues. Even though the fuel pump was replaced, there could still be sediment in the tank that’s not letting it work correctly.

            As for the idle and the coolant temp code, that could be wiring, a problem with the cooling system, or some other unseen issue. Anytime a vehicle sits for a long period of time, EVERYTHING rots. It’s almost not worth it with some vehicles. Here’s some additional info that may help you.

              Thanks for the reply eric, i love the youtube videos. Also, an update on the stealth. i banged my head against a wall for long enough to fall back to one of the initial things i did to the car. one of the first things i did when i bought the car was clean out the throttle body, which led me to finding the iac needed to be replaced and replaced it. I recalled it being excessively gummed up, however this seemed to be the last possible thing to me to check. I took off the throttle body and disassembled it including sensitive parts. and dipped it in cleaner, scrubbed it out and even used wire to push gunk out of holes. I suppose whatever crackcrevice the cleaner got in was enough to clean out whatever was causing the problem. It runs and idles just fine. Now to change belts, valve seals, brakes, tires, and maybe hunt down why my computer keeps throwing the coolant temp sensor code..
