Ok so my 1992 Dodge Stealth has a hard misfire. I have read the codes which are 44 and 41. Ignition cylinder 1 and 4 and injector coil.

Right away I checked for spark and nothing from the coil closest to firewall for cylinder 1 and 4.

So I swapped with the bottom coil because all the other cylinders are getting spark. No change. Still no spark from cylinder 1 and 4.(I also checked for leaking coils and wires with a water spray bottle and there were no issues.)

I pulled the ptu(power transistor unit) which controls the ignition today and tested it. It seems to test ok but I will try and get a used on from the junk yard and see what ohm readings I get. The readings from each of the three transistors were all consistent.

Where do I go from here? How do I test the signal from the ecu to the ptu? I think this is the next logical step. If I missed anything let me know.

Forgot to ask if anyone knows how to test the signal from the ecu to the ptu?

Back then Mitsubishi was using flawed ECU’s. I suggest pulling the ECU and pulling the cover. Look for corrosion around any capacitor on the board.

Now that you mention that I have seen a lot of that seem to have ecu issues on other forums too. Also the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree; abs, srs, check engine, sport and touring suspension settings blinking on and off.

I will search and find out how to remove the ecu and then look inside it.

            Thanks

With that much stuff lighting up it makes me think wiring. The Evo 8 had a problem where salty water would get in the wiring loom under the hood, move through the grommet at the back of the fender well and into the wiring blocks under the drivers kick panel. All sorts of weird electrical happenings would ensue.

Ok, so it has been cold and I have been busy at work.

I had the car running after I had cleaned the computer board. There was a lot of corrosion. It ran the same and after ten minutes it died and would not stay running enough to move the car which was really all I was trying to do that day.

A few days ago I had the car running and it now has spark on cylinder 1 and 4. Yes it is running on six cylinders. After running for awhile it seems to have an intermittent misfire but still had spark on all six. CEL came on, off for five minutes, then on steady. I am going to check it today. I also just received a replacement capacitor kit from ebay for the computer. I will most likely install that today too.

If new caps doesn’t fix it get a reman computer. Don’t pop for a new one.

Well it runs but still has the cylinder 1 and 4 misfire. Yea I’m not sure where the best place is to get a reman ecu.
