I have a 91 Integra automatic that I rebuilt less than 10k ago. It runs great except for one little thing. When the engine is just about up to normal temp if I’m at a light the idle will stumble down slowly and suddenly recover, locking on to the normal idle speed. It will do this 3 or 4 times then lock in and be perfect from then on. If I happen to be on heavy acceleration at the time it will have a noticeable loss of power as if it’s leaned out a bit and if I punch it it will recover and not do it again. The best way I can think of to describe it would be a very sloppy transition from open to closed loop operation. Some things that were swapped out for other reasons but had no effect on this problem were the ECU and the distributor. It is tested Ca. smog compliant, no codes, no mil. Any ideas? Thanks.

check out the stickies at the top of the forum about honda idle issues. Eric knows his stuff when it comes to these hondas and I’d bet there’s some useful information up there for you.

Thank you for your reply. I have read the articles regarding Honda idle issues as I had to solve idle hunting myself but it was very slightly miss-adjusted valves (too tight) that caused my idle hunting problem way back when. This one is not just an idle problem but more of an intermittent repeatable performance/driveability issue that doesn’t seem to fit any mold that I’ve read about so far.
