Turning a 91 Honda accord se into my Daily driver. Almost done. The brakes work great. Looking for input.

The abs Light is on. after looking over things it is messing the abs motor relay. Some one must had pulled it to stop abs. I assume they did not like abs or sensor was bad cause pulsing or motor shot or something.

      questions:
      1. So do I get a relay and try to fix it or leave it as is?

      2. When doing a brake fluid change do I need to do the abs motor tank if not using it?

      3. How do I change fluid in the abs motor tank/motor?

Brakes are not leaking and working fine. There is some rust on calipers and mounts. should I:

      4. Take them off clean up and paint to protect them? or is this a waste of time and just for looks?

      5. Should I rebuild the working OEM calipers with new parts to keep them from failing? they are 23 years old. or just not worry about it until they die?

School has started back for me and I have not put in the usual effort of a few day of searching be for asking questions. Forgive me if I over looked something that was easy to find.

      Thanks

It’s likely they pulled the relay to keep the pump from running. It’s a common problem on those modulators to have an issue with an internal leak. The accumulators can sometimes leak as well. The best place to start is by pulling the codes. You’d need to get the system operational again though, and that may require the relay you mentioned. If you do find a problem there however, it could get very expensive and for a 91 I don’t think it would be worth it. Perhaps that’s why the relay is missing in the first place. You really don’t need ABS. It’s nice to have, but the base braking system should continue to work fine.

You can ‘turkey baste’ the fluid out of the ABS and you should be fine.

I’m not a fan of painting calipers, I don’t think it can hurt anything however.

        I don’t recommend rebuilding calipers.

You’re better off replacing them if there’s a problem.
