      Hi,

I just bought my first car: a 1991 Ford F150. The biggest thing wrong with is is that the temperature gauge inside the truck doesn’t work (it’s stuck on cold). Now, I am new to working on cars, but I believe that the temperature sending unit may be at fault (supposedly there is also a sensor that sends information to the computer, but not to the gauge). However, I cannot find the sending unit. If somebody knows where I can find it, or have something to check for before blaming the sending unit, that would be much appreciated. If it helps, the truck has a 300 cubic inch (4.9 L) straight 6.

      Thanks,
      Roman

check on the intake manifold near or opposite the coolant sensor.
The sending unit with have one wire. Pull the connector and ground
the connect the gauge should go to hot. If it moves replace the sensor.
If not wiring or gauge problem. The key needs to be in the on position.

A service manual is your best friend in situations like this.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I am going by my failing memory but I believe the sensor for the computer is in the heater hose connection at the front of the engine and the sensor for the gauge is at the rear of the cylinder head on the passenger side.

It has one wire on it and if you remove it and ground it the gauge should peg on HOT. If not the gauge or wiring is likely faulty.

If you can’t find it let me know and I’ll try to find the location for you.

Thanks for the help guys. I found it on the passenger side of the engine below the last fuel injector. It was way down there though, so I had to feel around for it to find it, you couldn’t see it. Thanks again.
