Driving me crazy! Just wish it was driving me. Truck will start but dies after a few seconds. I have tried bleeding the fuel lines at the top of the injectors. Truck seemed to run better but did not solve the problem.

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter?

Like college said start with the fuel filter, especially if you do not regularly drain the water out.

If the filter does not help let us know the next place to check is the low pressure pump.

BTW do NOT under any circumstances move the injection pump around to try and change timing, trust me on this I have owned a few 7.3 IDIs in the past, changing the timing without the special timing light will do more harm than good.

I replaced this pump the same time i replaced the fuel filter, 2 mo.’s ago. And the pump was leaking at the seam. I might add that I did run it out of fuel about a month ago. One more question do these trucks have obd ports and if so where are they?

see if this helps for pulling codes.

OK, I will look for hat pig tail on the left side near the firewall. I do have a diagnostic reader is the port for that reader in the same general area?

                              What kind of reader?

The OBD connector for pre-1996 Fords is located on the driver’s side under the hood near the corner where the firewall and fender meet.

Yes, you use the yellow adapter that came with your scantool.

Fuel pressure regulator? There’s also a ground strap next to the fuel filler hose. Check fuel pressure after the regulator with manufacturers specs.
