1991 camry wagon parasitic draw?

      Hello all.

      Have a 1991 camry wagon that keeps having battery die. Tried the parasitic draw tests per erics vids..pulled all fuses and relays with no effect. Getting a 2.5ish amp draw.
      Also had brake..charge and light dash lights come on.
      Found 1 headlight burned out and replaced.
      No effect.
      Does not have aftermarket stereo or alarm system.
      Once headlight replaced the charge and light dash lights go off.
      any ideas?

        Disconnect your alternator and check for draw.. you may need a new alternator or a rebuild… you probably have a bad diode…

          bingo..draw seems to be from altenator circuit..unfortunately we destroyed the fuse trying to remove it so need to buy a new one to test..would this mean a new alternator or perhaps wiring from alternator is fubar?

            Take out the alternator and have it tested (they will do this for free at any major auto parts store)… I am willing to bet almost anything it will fail the diode test… this is not a wiring issue (unless you have really bad or burned wires)… The diodes in the alternators go bad and either the alternator needs rebuilt or just buy a new one… Chances are it is much easier and cheaper just to get a new one… Replacing your alternator should solve your problems…

              You need to go back to the parasitic test and find out what the draw is. A headlight is not going to be the problem, unless you have some weird-butt headlight that gets power all the time and draws power but doesn’t light up.

              If there is no parasitic draw, it’s possible that all those charge-discharge cycles have worn out the battery. Car batteries don’t like being discharged many times below 50%, they start to lose their charge holding ability.
